Description
  • Extensive leadership experience in establishing data architecture, including data lakes, data warehouses and related infrastructure, by aligning relevant architecture(s) and broader business operations and strategic goals.
  • Proficiency in data modelling, database design, and ETL processes.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated stakeholder engagement and collaboration experience, particularly with senior executive and leaders.
  • Experience in data modelling and database design.
  • Demonstrated ability to stay current with and use emerging data technologies, including artificial intelligence.
  • Excellent leadership, engagement, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of IT Security principles and practices.
  • The data architect is either experienced or conversant in emerging tools like columnar and NoSQL databases, predictive analytics, data visualization, and unstructured data.
  • While not necessarily deep in all of these technologies, the data architect is experienced in one or more, and must understand them sufficiently to guide the agency in understanding and adopting them.
  • The candidate will require the following capabilities to work effectively in the role:

  • You must also be familiar with the following concepts and display experience in a Lakehouse Architecture or similar model: Data Ingestion Data Fabric Data Mining Data Transformation Data Mart Data Streaming Data Warehousing .
  • You should excel in high tempo work environments and will be able to balance several key priorities simultaneously while ensuring the highest levels of quality in the work being delivered on time.

Primary Technologies.

  • Cloudera, Teradata, Apache, SAS, Mainframe, Qlik, SAP (HANA), DB2, Tableau, Power BI, Informatica.

Key duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • The Data Architect will; Provide expert advice on data architecture and management best practices for implementation within SA Design business intelligence strategies and reports in response to evolving business needs and engage with stakeholders across the business to develop the vision for the department's use of data.
  • Analyse data related business needs with business analysts and technology teams by providing advice on data warehousing methods and approaches, providing effective data analysis strategies for data migration for systems replacement projects.
  • Provide assurance over data solutions and make recommendations to ensure compliance with relevant policies, strategies, and industry best practice.
  • Analyse, plan, and define data architecture framework, including security, reference data, metadata, and master data.
  • Work with the Services Australia (SA)s enterprise architects to develop and modify enterprise architecture, providing consultancy and advice to stakeholders when gathering business requirements to provide input into systems replacement and future solution projects.
  • Work collaboratively to redesign and establish data governance processes, tools and artefacts which align with the SAs enterprise architecture.
  • Provide expertise in the development and maintenance of a big data platforms including Data Visualisation products.
  • Provide expert advice on data architecture and management best practices for implementation within SA.
  • Lead the overall technical solution design of big data Platforms to support business capabilities.
  • Provide expertise in designing services for data quality including cleansing, standardisation, enrichment and matching.
  • Provide technical expertise in configuring systems for high availability, automated fail over and disaster recovery.
  • Integrate industry tested methodologies for optimising and streamlining data processing best practices.
  • Create and update various documentation such as: Technical specifications, technical designs and matrices, Architectural documents, System design specifications, Work flows, events, and sequence diagrams, UML (Universal Mark-Up Language) charts.
  • Support the Section Director with advice and expertise to in relation to the data platforms to support the system owners and applications to develop the SAs data strategy and roadmap.
Experience

Mandatory Criteria
• 5 years previous experience working in a data warehousing environment.
Weighted Criteria
• A degree in a relevant discipline, such as Information Technology or data science is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of Australian Government Data policies and procedures is desirable.
